Day 12: Your Favorite Story

Day 12: Your Favorite Story

I really hate this one.  It’s too hard to pick a favorite storyline because each story is unique and captive in it’s own way.  How are you supposed to compare a nun becoming a male pop star to a spy pretending to be an actors bodyguard?  The two things are unparalleled and impossible to choose from.  I like to look at each drama as individual and unique so it bugs me to have to choice a ‘favorite’ storyline from them.

Despite the fact that I despise this particular question in this challenge, I’m going to give it a go and hope for the best.  When doing this question I’m not going to look at the acting, script, emotion, or performance I’m just going to strip all of that away and look at the basic storyline.  That way it will be more generic and easier to choose.

I will choose from three story’s that I particularly find interesting.  The first I will look at is My Girlfriend is a Gumiho.  In this one a Gumiho, which is a nine-tailed fox that becomes the form of a human, clings to a human and they eventually fall in love.  Typically, a Gumiho in the story eats human organs, usually the liver, but in this one the Gumiho only eats meat.  I love this story because it’s the classic forbidden love.  It reminds me of the trend nowadays with vampire romance.  Despite the fact that I love this story, I decided not to pick it.

The second one I picked was Secret Garden.  This plot is extremely exciting, with the female and male protagonists switching bodies.  The idea of this happening is altogether hilarious and exhilarating.  It’s a storyline that deserves mentioned, but not chosen as the best, because it has too many holes.  The concept of switching bodies is so vague and unexplainable that I find it a bit unorthodox.

Narrowing it down with great reluctance I was able to pick my ‘favorite’ story.  The story I picked is Boys Over Flowers – the typical rich/popular guy falls for poor/humble girl.  I’m a person who loves the classic love stories and this is one of my all-time-favorites.  Even though I’m not a huge fan of Boys Over Flowers as a whole, I am a fan of the story.  I watched the anime, and then watched the Japanese Drama Hana Yori Dango, so when I watched BOF I wasn’t thrilled.  The story, on the other hand, will live in my heart forever.  Which is precisely why I had to pick it.

Hana Yori Dango- for those who are interested. ^

Sincerely,

PinkPerel

Day 11: Your Favorite Dialogue

Day 11: Your Favorite Dialogue

Today, there is only one dialogue I can pick.  It’s my favorite one and I’ve watched this scene over and over.  I think the writers made every word and every syllable perfect.  This dialogue makes me want to cry every time.  It’s from the drama My Girlfriend is a Gumiho when Mi-ho is about to disappear.  They are both broken up about it and they sit in the gym where they first experienced the power of her bead the first time together.  This is the dialogue:

Mi-ho: At first, was I really that scary?

Dae-woong: Yes. But as scared as I was then, I’m a hundred times more…right now.

(Mi-ho cover’s his eyes)

Mi-ho: Let’s stay like this.  Woong?  Think of it as a dream.  From the moment I first appeared in front of you, until this moment, when I disappear.  Think of it all as a dream.  If you think of it as a dream, when you open your eyes, it won’t hurt at all.

Dae-woong: Mi-ho?  Don’t go.

Mi-ho: Forget all the scary parts and remember me as a really, really, really, really, really good dream.

(Mi-ho kisses him and disappears.)

Dae-woong: A dream?  When I open my eyes, it won’t hurt?  It hurts so much!  How can you be a dream?

(Next morning)

Dae-woong: Mi-ho?  Mi-ho.  Are you gone?  You just left me behind like this, and disappeared?  No.  It can’t be.

Dae-woong: Mi-ho, you must be crying, but it doesn’t rain anymore when you cry. No matter how sad you are, I have no way of knowing…because you’re not here anymore. Mi-ho is gone. Mi-ho is gone. Mi-ho…is gone.

What do you think?

Sincerely,

Pinkperel

Day 10: Your Favorite Line/s by a Female Third Wheel

Day 10: Your Favorite Line/s by a Female Third Wheel

I actually have quite a few lines by female third wheels that I really love- but I narrowed it down to three.  The first one is a list said by a group of drunk girls in My Lovely Kim Sam Soon.  I’m not a hundred percent sure who said it but I believe it was Jang Young-ja (Dining room captain).  I found this list to be hilarious and I absolutely had to mention it.  It’s a list of why they don’t have men in their lives.

“01-Nice men are ugly
02-Handsome men are not nice
03-Handsome and nice men are married
04-Handsome, nice and unmarried men are useless
05-Handsome, nice, unmarried and rich men are not interested in us
06-Handsome, nice, unmarried, rich men who are interested in us are players
07-Handsome, nice, unmarried, rich men who are interested in us and faithful are homosexuals
10-Handsome, nice, unmarried, rich men who are interested in us, faithful, straight and who would not lose interest in us even if we made the first moves – those men must have problems!”
— Jang Young-ja

“Throw away your misconception that all good girls want nice guys.” – Ga Eul

This next quote, even if it is one of my favorites, isn’t the winner.  It’s said by Chu Ga Eul (Jan Di’s best friend) in Boys Over Flowers.  I love this line because of how true it is, and the fire with which Ga Eul says it is excellent.

The winning quote is said by the amazing Yoon Seul from Secret Garden.  It’s one of the first moments that Yoon Seul shows her heart and you can’t help but sympathize.  Almost all of us can relate with what she is saying on some level or another which makes it all the more powerful.  It’s a breathtaking moment with a heartbreaking line that simply has to be my favorite line by a female third wheel.

“Have you ever felt like dying because of a girl?  Not being able to sleep or eat are just the obvious basics. Falling asleep and waking up are hell too because you cannot figure out how you and the person you love are supposed to become strangers. You cannot even complain to other people because they might badmouth him. So, you cry alone. But the thing that really hurts is that the other person doesn’t even seem to be thinking of you. It feels like it’s just you that hurts like this. That person seems to have forgotten all about you and he’s happy. All you want to do is die, but you cannot die either because you might never see that person again.” — Yoon Seul

Do you have any better ones?

Sincerely,

PinkPerel

Day 09: Your Favorite Line/s by a Male Third Wheel

Day 09: Your Favorite Line/s by a Male Third Wheel

Today I’m going to be using a moment in a show that I’ve already picked before.  I just love this moment and this character so much that I can’t help but think it’s the best line.  It’s said by Jeremy from You’re Beautiful, in a very heartbreaking moment.  He has loved Go Mi Nyu this whole time without her really knowing.  He hasn’t tried anything, or said anything, to make her guess at his feelings, and yet in this scene you can see just how deep his feelings for her really are.  I love that in this moment the always oblivious Go Mi Nyu understands.  The nun who is so innocent doesn’t have to ask any questions to see how he is feeling.  He is so open while saying this, that it makes him completely vulnerable.  I couldn’t think of a better line than this one.

“When I thought you were a guy, I was okay with it. When I found out you were a girl, I was okay with it. But if you like him, I can’t be okay with it. Why? Why wasn’t it me? I told you about my treasure bus, and I let you close to Jolie and I was going to sing a song only for you. Why don’t you like me?” – Jeremy

This is the entire scene if you want to see it, not only the line I picked but a few moments preceding it and following it:

What do you think?

Sincerely,

PinkPerel

Day 08: Your Favorite Line/s by a Female Lead Character

Day 08: Your Favorite Line/s by a Female Lead Character

I realized something strange as I was writing this blog- I don’t know any lines from female lead characters.  I knew plenty from the guys, and tons from third wheels, but none from the lead girl.  However, I was able to find one that I love.  This is more of a paragraph than a line, but it’s absolutely perfect.  It’s said by Kim Sam Soon from My Lovely Kim Sam Soon.  She has a tendency to say long paragraphs that depicts your soul, and I thought this one was the most relatable.

“One day the body asked the heart. When I’m hurt the doctor heals it, but if you’re hurt then who will heal you? Then the heart said, I have to heal by myself. Is it because of that whenever someone is hurt they have their own special way of healing it? Drinking, singing, releasing anger, laughing, crying, going to trips with friends and talking to them, and running in the marathon…or the worst thing, just ignoring the pain. My way of healing is making cake and cookies in the morning like right now. Even when my father suddenly passed away, even when a passionate relationship came to an end. I come to the kitchen to bake cake and I was healed from the smell of the baked cake. Can there be another treatment as sweet as this one?” — Kim Sam Soon

Do you have anything better?

Sincerely,

PinkPerel

Day 07: Your Favorite Line/s by a Male Lead Character

Day 07: Your Favorite Line/s by a Male Lead Character

Ahhhh, I have to admit, this day’s challenge got me really excited.  Watching Korean Drama’s, I can’t help but fall in love with a character based on they’re lines and the way they preform them.  For this question I’m going to look not only at the words themselves, but also on how good the actor is at executing them with raw emotion.  I narrowed it down to two lines:

“I’m going to keep telling you, so listen good every day. I love you.” – Tae Kyung

First is said by Hwang Tae Kyung from You’re Beautiful.  It’s said in the very last episode as he finally finds Go Mi Nyu to ask her to stay.  This moment is very touching and you can’t help but squeal and jump up in down in excitement.  Jang Geun Suk preforms the line perfectly, and I love him for it.

Even though this line made the series more perfect to me, it didn’t win this particular competition.  Looking at the two lines I picked, the one by Tae Kyung may sound better on paper, but in the performance the winning line is said with much more emotion.

This line is said by Cha Dae Woong in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho.  He said this with both of their lives on the line, and he refused to except either of them to sacrifice for the other.  The look on his face as he says it, the way the audience is forced to hold their breath, and the importance of the moment, all make this line that much more perfect.  There couldn’t be any better winner than this one:

“As the person who loves you, this is my decision. Who knows where this will go, but let’s do it together. If we live, we both live. And if we die, we die together.” — Dae Woong

What’s your favorite line?

Sincerely,

PinkPerel

Day 06: Your Favorite Song from a Kdrama OST

Day 06: Your Favorite Song from a Kdrama OST

I decided to go ahead and answer this question as well, even though it’s the same day as the last question, because this is a very easy one for me.  Again, I didn’t even have to think about this, because there is one song that stands out among the rest,

That song would be: Without Words from You’re Beautiful!  The way this song was portrayed was so perfect and so outstanding that I even had to download it onto my IPod.  I listen to it all of the time and it still is able to touch my heart.

What’s your favorite?

Sincerely,

PinkPerel
