Day 12: Your Favorite Story
I really hate this one. It’s too hard to pick a favorite storyline because each story is unique and captive in it’s own way. How are you supposed to compare a nun becoming a male pop star to a spy pretending to be an actors bodyguard? The two things are unparalleled and impossible to choose from. I like to look at each drama as individual and unique so it bugs me to have to choice a ‘favorite’ storyline from them.
Despite the fact that I despise this particular question in this challenge, I’m going to give it a go and hope for the best. When doing this question I’m not going to look at the acting, script, emotion, or performance I’m just going to strip all of that away and look at the basic storyline. That way it will be more generic and easier to choose.
I will choose from three story’s that I particularly find interesting. The first I will look at is My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. In this one a Gumiho, which is a nine-tailed fox that becomes the form of a human, clings to a human and they eventually fall in love. Typically, a Gumiho in the story eats human organs, usually the liver, but in this one the Gumiho only eats meat. I love this story because it’s the classic forbidden love. It reminds me of the trend nowadays with vampire romance. Despite the fact that I love this story, I decided not to pick it.
The second one I picked was Secret Garden. This plot is extremely exciting, with the female and male protagonists switching bodies. The idea of this happening is altogether hilarious and exhilarating. It’s a storyline that deserves mentioned, but not chosen as the best, because it has too many holes. The concept of switching bodies is so vague and unexplainable that I find it a bit unorthodox.
Narrowing it down with great reluctance I was able to pick my ‘favorite’ story. The story I picked is Boys Over Flowers – the typical rich/popular guy falls for poor/humble girl. I’m a person who loves the classic love stories and this is one of my all-time-favorites. Even though I’m not a huge fan of Boys Over Flowers as a whole, I am a fan of the story. I watched the anime, and then watched the Japanese Drama Hana Yori Dango, so when I watched BOF I wasn’t thrilled. The story, on the other hand, will live in my heart forever. Which is precisely why I had to pick it.
